I størst mulig grad utføres dette arbeidet uten å koble ut strømforsyningen. Svalbard Energi har startet opp med det årlige vedlikeholdsarbeid av høyspent luftlinjer i og rundt Longyearbyen. Dette arbeidet krever utkobling av luftlinjene det skal arbeides på. Derfor vil det bli flere utkoblinger av strømforsyningen i tiden fremover. Dette vil spesielt merkes i områdene utenfor sentrum som forsynes av luftlinjer. Arbeidet vil foregå i mars og april måned og det skal jobbes både på dagtid og nattestid for å unngå at dette arbeidet forstyrrer næringslivet i Longyearbyen unødig.
Vedlikeholdsarbeidet er noe som gjøres hvert år på vinterstid når lyset vender tilbake. Årsaken er at våre entreprenører er avhengige av å ta seg frem med maskiner i terrenget og arbeide på frossen og snødekt mark. Lyset gjør at dette arbeidet blir både enklere og triveligere for våre entreprenører å utføre.
Arbeidet har pågått siden uke 10 uten at det har vært avbrudd i strømforsyningen.

The power grid is aging, and ongoing maintenance is necessary to ensure sufficient supply security.
As much as possible, this work is carried out without disconnecting the power supply. Svalbard Energi has started the annual maintenance work on high-voltage overhead lines in and around Longyearbyen. This work requires disconnecting the overhead lines being worked on.
